TSSD #14: Discovering New Ways to Move
Dec 24, 2022Read time: 2 minutes
Are you feeling like you need to move more but the idea of going to the gym overwhelms you? Maybe you don’t have the time or the money, or maybe you’re just not sure where to start.
Well, I have some good news: You don’t need to sign up for a gym membership in order to get your sweat on.
Change Your Perspective on Movement
Exercise and movement doesn't have to mean going to a specific place and doing specific exercises — it can mean anything that makes you feel good in your body and get you to break a sweat!
Here are just a few ideas of fun and creative ways you can move that don’t require any special equipment:
Dance
Put on your favorite playlist and get moving! Even if you don’t know any formal dance moves, just move your body to the rhythm and you’ll be burning calories in no time.
Take a hike
Exploring nature is the perfect way to get your heart rate up while also clearing your mind. It’s a great opportunity to get some fresh air and take in some stunning scenery.
Yoga in your living room
No need to sign up for a pricey class, just turn on some calming music, pull out your yoga mat (or go without!), and choose some poses from YouTube or a yoga app.
Try water aerobics
Grab a pool noodle and do some laps around the pool, or look up some water aerobics classes in your area for a more structured workout.
Ride a bike
Got an old bicycle lying around? Get out and explore your town, or find a nearby bike path for an easy and enjoyable ride.
Go for a jog.
Not only is jogging an excellent form of cardio, but it gives you the chance to explore new places as well as some much-needed alone time.
Play with your pets
Spend time with your fur babies while getting your heart rate up — it’s a win-win! Taking them on a walk or running around the yard will give you both exercise and quality time together.
There are countless other ways to exercise without needing a gym membership, so don’t be afraid to get creative and have fun with it!
The important thing is to find activities that make you feel good in your body and enjoy the process of getting healthy.
I wish you all the best in discovering new ways to move as you get ready to embrace the New Year ahead.
